Lynmouth N.Devon - a winter's wave with plenty of potential as this aerial by Carwyn Williams in 1985 demonstrates.
Unlike most spots sheltered from the direct force of the winter storms, Lynmouth has long waves that are matched with a long paddle often against the set surge . When the swell is out of control almost everywhere else and more than likely during a force 9 with rain lifting from the surface, the lines to the horizon and waves without too many duck-dives are a winter's delight. Next to the river, that has been the root cause of this boulder right , there's a snug little town with sufficient cafes etc. open even in the winter. Other nearby breaks include Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton.
