Spencer Hargarves Leads BPSA Tour
Spencer Hargraves leads this years BPSA UK Tour after the first two events. Spencer, who was brought up in Newquay and currently resides in Queensland Australia with his family, is currently leading the BPSA UK Tour after finishing fourth in the Saltrock Open, held at Croyde Beach, North Devon and second in the O'Neill Highland Challenge, held at Thurso East (see photo), Scotland.
Spencer is possibly one of the most accomplished British Surfers ever, with more titles to his name than any other surfer from the UK, with the possible exception of Russell Winter. Twice he won the European Pro title 1990 - 91 and placed in the top 4 EPSA ranking the following four years, he has won most if not all British and English Amateur titles in the late '80's early 90's and was the first British surfer to make a final of a WQS event in '94, also that year reached the top 50 on the prestigious ASP WQS World Tour. Most recently he won the inaugural Sri Lankan Airlines Champion of Champions Surf Contest held at Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka and last year quite rightly picked up the Award for the Soundworx Most Inspirational Surfer given at the Freerange BPSA Award Ceremony.
Second place on the tour is currently held by Toby Atkins (Aus), he won the first event, which was his first ever contest victory at Croyde and backed it up with a quarter final finish in Thurso. In third another surfers from the old guard Sam Lamiroy (Newcastle) who seems this year to be on a mission to regain the BPSA tour title.
The next event the Fat Face Night Surf held at Lusty Glaze, Newquay, June 16th - 18th, will be all important for the challengers to the BPSA Title. The event has been upgraded to 2 Star status offering a minimum of £3,000 prize money with more points available to the successful surfers.
